For several moments throughout the early morning hours of March 17, Phillippa’s Bakery in Melbourne, Australia, was the backdrop to. In accordance with the social media post from the bakery’s team, “We were quite surprised after we saw the safety footage from a recent break in at our Bakery HQ. Looks as if yoga is a must before breaking in.”
When staff arrived at work the morning of the robbery, several items were missing, the owner of the bakery, Phillippa, told Yoga Journal. Among the many items taken were an iPad, shoes, cleansing chemicals, croissants, and hot cross buns. When she reviewed the footage from the safety camera, she could plainly see “someone going into the bakery, rifling through things, and putting on some chef pants and apron.”
As if that wasn’t curious enough, a day later Phillippa was going through more video from security cameras when she noticed the identical individual within the undercover area of the automotive park moving in a way that was unmistakably…yoga.
The alleged burglar, clad in black, may be seen within the footage doing what one Instagram commenter known as “interpretive dance.” She transitions with relative ease amongst various stretches and yoga poses starting with Bridge Pose (to which she adds some leg lifts) before lowering herself into Side-Lying Pose (Anantasana). That’s followed by a somewhat stilted version of Wild Thing. Then she sits in a Seated Forward Bend before lowering herself back into Bridge Pose and makes her way right into a wider-legged Seated Forward Bend.
Just whenever you think she’s slowing down, she attempts Wild Thing again, brings her hips to the pavement in a yin yoga pose just like a 90-90 and transitions into Upward-Facing Dog (together with her legs considerably further apart than is traditional) before settling into an alarmingly ephemeral Savasana. (We don’t encourage you to do this sequence at home.)
“She was very flexible,” said Phillippa, who recognized loads of the poses from her own occasional yoga practice. “And, I feel, in her own world doing her thing.” On condition that the camera was in plain sight quite than hidden, the bakery owner finds it hard to imagine the person “wasn’t doing it on purpose in a way,” which might take performative yoga to recent heights.
Even though it seems the very best performance was yet to come back. After coming across the extra footage, Phillippa shared it with others on the bakery. “We like to laugh, although this was a bit unusual,” she says. The amused team thought your complete scene was paying homage to something on the large screen featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones, in order that they set the video to the “Mission Unimaginable Theme,” composed by Lalo Schifrin, before posting it to Instagram.
A girl has been arrested and charged with the burglary and theft, in response to an article in The Telegraph. Within the meantime, the escapade has drawn quite plenty of attention to the bakery, says Phillippa. “Especially to the croissants and hot cross buns.”
