Why I Love This Recipe

I really like gingerbread through the holiday season. I just can’t get enough of those delicious warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and ginger this time of 12 months. 

I also adore oatmeal and find that it’s a superbly satisfying and comfy breakfast. Plus, it’s really easy and quick to make. This Gingerbread Oatmeal is not any exception.

Ready is lower than quarter-hour, this oatmeal is certain to present you all of the wintery, holiday, cozy feels. Its sweet and spicy flavor profile jogs my memory of fresh gingerbread cookies but in a creamy, breakfast form. Think warm winter spices and an ideal balance of spicy ginger and sweet molasses.

quick steel cut oats: I exploit quick steel cut oats on this recipe but you can too use any variety of oats – steel cut are my favorite for his or her creamy texture but you need to use regular steel cut oats or rolled oats too. Steel cut oats will take about half-hour to cook.

cinnamon: the right warm, cozy flavor 

ginger: mildly spicy yet sweet

allspice: barely earthy, bitter, and fruity 

ground cloves: adds a subtly sweet flavor and heat

nutmeg: provides a nutty, barely sweet and woody flavor

salt: flavor enhancer

vanilla extract: adds a touch of sweetness

molasses: contributes to the classic gingerbread flavor! You possibly can all the time add more molasses when you like your oatmeal sweeter

  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Optional: pecans and/or yogurt for garnish
