Tobacco use has terrible consequences and is one of the dangerous risk aspects to at least one’s health. While it’s harmful to at least one’s overall health, it could actually even be especially bad on your oral health. “It not only disrupts one’s oral hygiene but can even cause certain serious ailments,” cautions Dr Namrata Rupani, Founder & CEO of Capture Life Dental Care, citing the ways tobacco impacts one’s oral health.
• Individuals who smoke often are more prone to producing bacterial plaque, which results in severe gum diseases. Smoking repeatedly weakens the availability of blood and oxygen to the gums, obstructs the traditional functioning of gum tissue cells, quashes the immune system’s response to oral infections, and seriously affects the healing of gums. Moreover, gum diseases are the foundation explanation for tooth loss in adults.
• Essentially the most noticeable effect of tobacco is the discolouration of 1’s tongue and teeth. The nicotine present in tobacco impedes the flow of saliva, leading to a dry mouth and an impaired sense of taste as well.

• Other than aesthetic changes, tobacco also contributes to physical damage to the oral cavity. By chewing it often, tobacco releases certain chemicals and abrasive particles that destroy the teeth. It even causes bad breath.
• Nicotine and other harmful ingredients from smokeless tobacco products equivalent to gutkha, supari, and paan masala release tons of of carcinogenic chemicals into one’s mouth. These chemicals result in the genesis of cancers of the mouth and throat.
• Mouth sores and painful ulcers are familiar dental health issues which can be far more frequent amongst tobacco consumers. Smoking tobacco also interrupts the healing of the gums.
Maintaining good oral health is an ongoing effort that necessitates being proactive. It’s critical to see a dentist regularly. When one smokes or chews tobacco, the eye on that is heightened. Adopting good oral health habits can enable you to avoid quite a few dental and health problems.
