We’ve got all spent loads more time at home this last 12 months, and it’s apparently led some to chill out their oral hygiene.
In reality, a survey commissioned by the American Association of Endodontists revealed that greater than half of Americans said the COVID-19 pandemic caused them to postpone general dental checkups, which may result in serious oral health problems.
People aren’t just skipping their checkups.
The survey also found that the pandemic is taking its toll on those working or studying remotely in relation to changes to their every day dental hygiene routine. Significant findings include:
- 31% were snacking more on sweets
- 1 in 4 said they waited until later within the morning to brush their teeth, while 21% didn’t brush within the morning in any respect
- 43% of millennials surveyed indicating that working from home or attending virtual classes from home led to disruptions to their usual dental hygiene habits through the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
These poor dental habits make teeth more vulnerable to cracks and chips while eating, accidental trauma and decay.
It’s not too late to get your dental health back heading in the right direction!
