Self-care is the act of giving yourself the time and a focus you must live well and enhance each your physical and emotional health. Self-care can provide help to higher handle stress, reduce your likelihood of getting sick, and have more energy. In our busy lives, we frequently do not have time to practice self-care but even modest self-care practices could make a big difference in your life and the people around you. It’s the practice of taking an energetic role in preserving or improving your health. Everyone’s definition of self-care is exclusive, so it is important to find what you value and want. Finding what functions best for you would need some trial and error. Although self-care cannot treat mental illnesses, it may possibly provide help to manage them by helping you learn what triggers your mild symptoms and what coping mechanisms work best for you. “Considered one of the important thing things to recollect is that self-care is not something you do once and check off you are to-do list. We continually have to take measures to take care of our well-being. Self-care is something that continually must be integrated into our each day life. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to things you may do this require little or no time and may be done anywhere”, says therapist, Dr. Ketam Hamdan, in her recent Instagram post.

She further shared 7 unique self-care suggestions which are backed by science to lift your mood and increase your feel-good hormones and takes only a minute.

  • Do something childlike, silly for a minute. Stick out your tongue, and be playful.
  • Look within the mirror and say 3 things that you just like about yourself.
  • Spend one minute saying a prayer of whatever you desire or releasing your fears.
  • Smell something beautiful. Comparable to, using some beautiful smelling hand cream, lighting a fragrant candle or smelling some fresh flowers.
  • Hug someone! A median hug is 6 seconds, try hugging for longer to release feel-good hormones (oxytocin). Wrap your arms around a partner, friend, member of the family, or pet and provides them a decent hug.
  • Scan your body for one minute and see what you feel in your body. Where are you tense? Where do you are feeling pain? What do you notice?
  • Close your eyes and spend 1-minute pondering and feeling like a past time you were really blissful. Relive a blissful memory from the past and cherish those moments.
