SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Whitney Voss of Shreveport Counseling & Restoration (SCR), shares tricks to make it easier to make it through the vacation seasons.
On Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving, Whitney Voss from SCR visits KSLA news 12 to offer some advice to those that wade through the vacations.
Mental Health Suggestions:
- Communicating discomfort with conversation topics and asking for conversation changes.
- Stepping away from to different place in the house if the conversation doesn’t change.
- Leave the family gathering if you have to.
For some, the vacation season could be especially difficult. In accordance with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 64% of individuals with mental illness report the vacations make their conditions worse. High expectations, loneliness, and stress are leading aspects of the vacation blues. Holiday blues are different from mental illness, but short-term mental health problems should be taken seriously as they’ll result in clinical anxiety and depression.
